I read the story to my four-year-old grandson, and he immediately connected with the sentence "Sometimes you have to be a little bad to do something really good." On the re-reading, he looked up and smiled at me knowingly. We had a discussion about how the bad was really good in this case and about how can you know if the bad is good! Not sure he understood that last part but he loves the book and has asked for it to be read each time he comes over (which was about 4 times in the last week). Of course, we don't know why Mr. Pritchard was SO bad and why there couldn't be two successful bakeries in town--but then of course we wouldn't have our story!
