I bought this copy to replace an older copy that I wore out. The rest of the series is a great read from the start, and at times the writer will absolutely surprise, shock, and amaze you. Descriptions are lyrical, dialogue is a little archaic but surprisingly relateable in human terms, and the plot is satisfyingly deep without being too slow or overly complex. There are several sub-plots that play themselves out throughout the series, and plenty of great little clues and histories that end up being crucial to the overall story. I always recommend this series to fans of high fantasy or people new to the genre.

Alright, Sara Douglass is not the absolute best writer ever, but the Wayfarer Redemption series really caught me enough that I read it twice, all six books. She creates a world that has characters that change dramatically - almost a little too dramatically. But if you like a good fantasy read, this will keep you busy for a little while at least!
Hard to describe what kind of reader would like this book. People who like omniscient writing and maybe royal intrigue. The prologue hooked me but the next 80-ish pages fell short. I skipped to the final chapter, hoping it was just a slow start but meh. There are layers of mystery to be solved in this tale but I'll pass.
